Title: Suiciders: Kings of HELL.A. #1
Writer: Lee Bermejo
Artist: Alessandro Vitti
Colors: Matt Hollingsworth (prologue) and Jordan Boyd
In this six part mini-series by Lee Bermejo, Suiciders: Kings of HELL.A. takes place in New Angeles after the big one knowns as “The Great Quake” hits. An entire generation of citizens have no clue what life was like prior to that and have grown up in a dark, dystopian world where gangs run “civilization.”
Johnny is the street wise leader of Kings of HELL.A., a gang that will do anything to protect its turf from anyone that steps to them. Johnny oversteps his boundaries when he gets on the radar of Leonard, a former Suicider that calls himself, “The Coyote.”
Suiciders: Kings of HELL.A. is dark, gripping and leaning on the verge of maniacal. He shows how quickly society can deteriorate and that the only difference between civility and savagery is when our comforts are taken away from us forcing people or forge for survival, reverting to animalistic instincts.
“I couldn’t be more excited to take people back into the world of ‘Suiciders.’ The second arc takes place 15 years before the first storyline, closer toward the moment of the earthquake…an L.A. noir with some fresh new characters and a few familiar faces,” said Bermejo.
The story is quite compelling and having Alessandro Vitti along with the colors of Matt Hollingsworth and Jordan Boyd, makes this almost ready to be rushed to series. It could easily follow Preacher on AMC giving DC and Vertigo another smash television show.
This is one of those series that you will need to be put on your shelf once its published as a graphic novel.
