Even before the release of Avengers: Endgame, we knew that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) would be returning because the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, was the only other Marvel movie slated for release and even had a teaser trailer ahead Marvel’s record breaking superhero epic. Well, now that Avengers: Endgame has been in theaters for just over a week, Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have unveiled the first full length trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home. As ol’ Spidey himself warns you at the beginning of this trailer, this glimpse at Far From Home features MAJOR SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame. So if you’re one of the few souls who hasn’t seen Endgame, you might want to hold off on this particular trailer.
SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME AHEAD! YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!!
This trailer opens with Peter Parker (Holland) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) still dealing with the grief of Tony Stark’s sacrifice during Endgame‘s climactic battle. The friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has been keeping the streets of New York City safe and he’s preparing to go abroad to Europe for a school trip with his friends Ned (Jacob Batalon) and MJ (Zendaya). On the other side of the world, though, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) informs Spider-Man that Thanos’ snap created a multiverse and the web-slinger must team up with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to return the mysterious man back to his timeline.
Of course, there are all sorts of unanswered questions that arise from the trailer for director Jon Watts‘ Spider-Man sequel. Is the screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers really going to introduce multiple universes or is Mysterio using his special effects knowledge to create some villainous trickery? The important thing to remember before going into Far From Home is Marvel’s long track record of subverting fan expectations.
Co-starring with Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal in Spider-Man: Far From Home are Cobie Smulders, JB Smoove, Martin Starr, and Marisa Tomei. We’ll get our first look at a post-Endgame MCU when Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters on July 2, 2019.
The official synopsis for Spider-Man: Far From Home:
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.
