Shing!, the modern ninja beat ’em up, is coming to Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and PC August 28th, 2020
I love beat’em up games. The genre is definitely the nearest and dearest to my heart. Mostly due to the TMNT ones across the different consoles and arcade iterations. These quarter sucking games have come a long way. While I will gladly claim Turtles in Time is the best in the genre, the Scott Pilgrim one is unquestionable the best-made game of the genre. And sadly, all others since do not compare. Not to say there aren’t good ones, and I know Streets of Rage has made a comeback. But, many of the games still incorporate a lot of quarter-eating mechanics that just don’t make sense and make the games frustrating.
With that being said, Mass Creation gets it and look to be fixing it. They are looking to modernize the genre and find that perfect balance between complexity and accessibility. And they’re doing it by letting you attack with the right analog stick!!! To me, that’s brilliant. I mean, what has prevent the beat’em up genre from evolving. There are some spiritual predecessors like Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and the Turtles have been trying since the Gamecube to capture that magic. But these games add a new layer of complexity and feel more platformer than beat’em up.
Mass Creation understands! THEY GET IT! What no beat’em up game has done right in the new generations of consoles, at least since the PS3, is have direction! Scott Pilgrim took every mechanics of the genre and perfected it. Mass Creation looks to evolve it with Shing!. The game looks incredible, the dev diary has me stoked. I can’t wait. Shing! is coming to Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Windows PC, Max, and Linux via Steam on August 28th. For more info, visit http://shingthegame.com and the Shing!
