In chapter 10 of The Earthlands story arc, called the Gingerbread War! Billy Batson and the Shazam Family select their new seventh member as they face the challenges of a new threat known as the Monster Society!
King Kid takes to the streets to remove all the adults as they have over stayed their use. To King Kid, they are nothing more than hypocrites and have corrupted society. It reminded me of an old Superman story from the 1970s (got to read the classics kids) where teens refused to trust anyone over 30 and of course you can listen to the Big Blue Boy Scout because he was perpetually 29 years old.
Geoff Johns has a knack for taking characters that we loved growing up and revamping them making relevant for today’s readers. My Lebanese brother knows how to keep us entertained when he goes one character at a time and although my stubbornness hates calling Captain Marvel, Shazam! I still enjoy the Big Red Cheese, especially with C.C. Batson making his mark on the series. Also, who else Tawky Tawny a believable humanoid tiger that makes dinner for the Vasquez and Shazam Families? Even with my cat allergies and germophobia, I’d let Tawky cook for me.
Chocked full of puns, kids human, dad jokes and a message of anti-bullying, Shazam! 10 is a fun read with an exciting twist ending that that makes me wish issue 11 was coming out tomorrow instead of next month.
Is issue 11 out yet? I am primed to read that one!
