We relive moments of Con past to deal with our Con-Pression, check out the SDCC Amazon Prime Activation featuring The Boys
What I wouldn’t give to be at the SDCC Amazon Prime Activation. It’s convention season and guess where we’re heading??? Absolutely nowhere… Not that it wasn’t already crazy times, but it’s a bit darker since we are currently in what would be our busiest time of year. But, we’re not letting this pandemic ruin our con spirit. We’ll be sporadically fighting off our anxiety, cabin fever, and writer’s block to relive moments of cons past. The SDCC Amazon Prime Activation was definitely one of the best events outside of the convention hall. They featured small recreations of The Boys, The Expanse, and Carnival Row.
The activation had a tall rainbow glassed tower that featured a jumbotron screen that wrapped around on each side. Periodically performers would climb the tower and act out relevant pieces to whichever show they were associated with. For the most part, it was family-friendly, but everything that had to do with The Boys did contain numerous profanities. The performers were great, from the ones on the tower to the ones handing out free churros. Everyone was completely inhabiting their character and world. In The Expanse area, we actually got to talk to a prisoner being tortured. I tried cracking jokes, but he was really not willing the talk about anything else but his traumatic experience. I’m pretty sure he was Filipino because as we left his “cell” I performed the universal call. He had to fight his reaction.
If only I knew it would be more than a year until the next SDCC Amazon Prime Activation. I would’ve got back in line, ate more Carl’s Jr, and tried to get another pin. Fortunately for us, even though there is no activation, Amazon Prime Video has plenty of entertainment for us, like Upload, and The Boys season 2 is set to release September 4th. We have no official word on Carnival Row or The Expanse, but there is talk The Expanse is likely to be back by the end of the year.
