Roz Makes Her Return to ‘Night Court‘ in ‘Pension Tension‘ with this exclusive clip curtesy of NBCUniversal. ‘Night Court‘ airs Tuesdays and on Peacock the next day.
Everyone’s favorite bailiff, Roz Russell (Marsha Warfield), makes a long-awaited return to ‘Night Court‘ in the highly anticipated episode ‘Pension Tension‘, airing Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
Roz steps back into her familiar role at the courtroom, bringing her trademark cantankerousness and no-nonsense attitude. As she takes her place behind the desk, she’s as intimidating as ever, sending shivers down the spines of the new generation of lawyers and clerks. Among them is Gurgs, who clearly holds great respect and admiration for Roz, and therein lies the comedic gold of the episode. The tension between the two, fueled by both reverence and fear, leads to some of the funniest moments of the season.
Originally created by Reinhold Weege and reimagined for the 21st century by Dan Rubin, ‘Night Court‘ finds its stride in season three, just like the original series did. The show, which aired from 1984 to 1992, quickly became a fan favorite due to its outrageous, zany humor and quirky characters. The new version of the show, much like its predecessor, expertly blends absurdity with heart, and the third season of the sequel series marks its true creative resurgence. As Abby (Melissa Rauch) navigates her role as the new judge in the courtroom—filling the shoes of her late father, Harry (the late Harry Anderson)—and “Reinhold” Dan Fielding (John Larroquette, a tribute to the show’s creator in 1984) returns to his role as the sarcastic and lovable now public defender, the series continues to hit the right notes of chaos, wit, and warmth that defined the original.
We’re fortunate that both Larroquette and Warfield remain involved, especially considering that the majority of the original ensemble cast has passed away, including the beloved Florence Halop. Warfield’s return to ‘Night Court‘ is a gift for long-time fans, offering a nostalgic reminder of her memorable presence.
In an exclusive clip ‘Roz is Family‘ from season three, episode 10—titled ‘Pension Tension‘, we witness the dynamic between Abby, Wyatt (Nyambi Nyambi) and Julianne (Wendy Malik) discussing Roz and her larger than life persona. The clip beautifully captures the fear and admiration that Abby feels for Roz, reminiscent of the emotional beats in an earlier episode of the original series, season 3, episode 21, called ‘The Retirement‘. In that episode, Florence (the late Florence Halop) was forced to retire due to age discrimination, a touching moment that highlighted the show’s commitment to addressing serious issues in its usual comedic fashion. Similarly, ‘Night Court‘ s modern revival continues to blend humor and heart with perfect balance.
‘Night Court‘ airs Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
