Based upon the trailer for Rock the Kasbah, it looks like we might be getting Bill Murray‘s first over-the-top comedy in years. That’s not to say we don’t like the subtler blend of comedy and drama that Murray has brought to his recent string of sadsack characters, it’s just there’s a manic energy that we really haven’s seen from Murray in some time. At the same time, we haven’t seen a very good movie by Barry Levinson in a number of years — Envy and Man of the Year being among his more recent misfires. The Oscar-nominated actor and the Oscar-winning director are teaming up with Scrooged writer Mitch Glazer to tell the story of an American rock manager trapped in Afghanistan. Rock the Kasbah also boasts an impressive cast with Zooey Deschanel, Kate Hudson, Danny McBride, and Bruce Willis all working in support of the manic Murray.
Rock the Kasbah opens October 23rd, 2015.
