Jefferson Airplane was a cornerstone of the San Francisco psychedelic scene, while Jefferson Starship transitioned to a more mainstream rock style. As Starship, the band embraced a polished, radio-friendly sound, delivering anthems like “We Built This City,” “Sara,” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.” Mickey Thomas, who first made his mark in 1976 as the lead vocalist on the mega-hit “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with The Elvin Bishop Band, joined Jefferson Starship in 1979.
