Powell Robinson and Patrick R. Young Talk to us about the Second Annual Big Bad Film Fest taking place this weekend in Glendale, CA.
This year marks the second annual Big Bad Film Fest, a showcase of the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of horror cinema. The festival features eight feature films, several shorts, and celebrates the unique vision of Powell Robinson and Patrick R. Young, who manage their operation as a two-man team.
Big Bad Film, the innovative production company founded by Robinson and Young, is making waves in the world of character-driven horror cinema. Known for their off-kilter approach and genre-blurring creativity, Big Bad Film has made a name for itself by crafting distinctive, boundary-pushing movies that defy conventional expectations.
Robinson is an award-winning Cinematographer, Director, and Producer based in Los Angeles, has been a significant force in the film industry since his early career days. Robinson began his prolific career in commercial and music video cinematography in 2013, while still a student at USC. His talent quickly caught the eye of Zero Gravity Management, leading to high-profile projects with A-list celebrities and major brands like Apple, Mike Tyson, Twitch, Mercedes, and LinkedIn.
Robinson’s foray into feature film production began with the 2015 release of ‘Bastard‘, a film he co-directed with Patrick R. Young shortly after their graduation. Distributed by Fox Home Entertainment and After Dark Films domestically, and Tombstone Distribution internationally, ‘Bastard‘ marked Robinson’s entry into the world of feature film production and set the stage for his future projects.
Young who a Writer, Producer, and Director also based in Los Angeles, has been instrumental in shaping Big Bad Film’s creative direction. After graduating from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, Young co-founded Big Bad Film with Robinson. Together, they co-wrote and co-directed ‘Bastard‘, which premiered theatrically and was released on home video by Fox Home Entertainment in 2015.
Young’s success continued with a flourishing writing career. With four feature scripts produced and two more currently in development, his work has reached diverse platforms, including Netflix, Amazon, and Blu-ray. His recent success includes ‘Threshold‘, the second feature from Big Bad Film, which premiered at the Salem Horror Fest in 2020 and was released internationally by Arrow Films in 2021.
The festival offers three tiers of passes: the Black Belt tier, which includes access to opening night and all festival events; the Red Belt tier; and individual film tickets. Each tier provides an opportunity for fans and industry professionals alike to experience the distinctive and adventurous spirit that defines Big Bad Film.
As Big Bad Film continues to carve out its niche in the horror genre, Robinson and Young’s dedication to crafting unconventional, character-driven stories promises to keep audiences intrigued and engaged. With a track record of innovative films and a growing presence in the industry, Big Bad Film is poised to become a significant player in the world of genre cinema.
