Netflix is bringing the summer blockbuster experience to our homes and devices this July with movies like the Fear Street Trilogy, shows like RESIDENT EVIL: Infinite Darkness, and also the romantic-comedy Resort to Love. Produced by Alicia Keys, this rom-com stars Christina Milian as Erica, an aspiring pop star who ends up as the entertainment at her ex-fiancé’s wedding. The situation alone screams rom-com goodness, and then her new love interest Caleb (Sinqua Wells) is the brother of her ex-fiancé Jason (Jay Pharoah) who is lying to his fiancé Beverly (Christiani Pitts) about his past relationship and you get one extremely intriciate and crossing webs weaved. Netflix has done a pretty great job with previous rom-coms like Always Be My Maybe and Love, Guaranteed so I’m always ready to check out Netflix’s latest addition to the genre.

Synopsis:

A romantic comedy about aspiring pop star Erica (Christina Milian) who ends up as the entertainment at her ex-fiancé’s wedding after reluctantly taking a gig at a luxurious Mauritius island resort while in the wake of a music career meltdown. She tries to keep their past relationship a secret from his bride-to-be Beverly (Christiani Pitts), but Erica rediscovers her feelings for her ex, Jason (Jay Pharoah), despite his brother Caleb’s (Sinqua Walls) attempts to keep them from falling back in love. In this warm and funny romantic story that explores the bonds of love and family, the question soon becomes will Erica sing at Beverly’s wedding – or her own?
