Project Power Coming to Netflix August 14th
I pretty much watch anything with Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Put them in the same movie, I’m watching it opening night. Add superpowers, I’m going to do everything I can to watch it as soon as possible. That’s exactly what’s going on here. Project Power stars Foxx and Gordon-Levitt in a world where a pill can give someone five minutes of superpowers. Not sure what kind of powers you will get or even if you’ll leave, people will risk anything for power. Foxx’s character teams up with a local cop (Gordon-Levitt) and a teenage dealer (Dominique Fishback) to fight power with power and risk-taking the pill in order to track down and stop the group responsible for creating it.
I get that there’s a lot of superpowered programming these days, but the inherent limits and frequent negatives to the power are particularly interesting. Also, the footage of a bullet-proof JGL is incredibly well shot and rendered. Superpowers/superheroes may seem all the same to some, but my god the difference between each property keeps it all fresh in my book. Plus, the fight choreography seems pretty intense. Which a lot of times, superhero moves think powers are enough. It’s not. Implementation of powers into well-choreographed fights is a must. That’s why most Superman and Thor fight scenes are lackluster.
Project Power is coming to Netflix on August 14, 2020.
