Prima Gears of War 4 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide Review

Complete the experience with the Prima Gears of War 4 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide

Prima Gears

Prima does it again with the Prima Gears of War 4 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide. They pack all the information you will need for the Gears of War 4, package it amazingly in a beautiful hardbound book, and make it an enjoyable read at the same time. I’ll try to keep from talking to0 much about the game, but if you want to know my thoughts here’s my review. I’ll be talking about the 3 biggest aspects of the guide, campaign use, multiplayer use, and overall aesthetics. I can tell you now though, it rocks em all.

So I played through the campaign twice. The first time without the Prima Gears of War 4 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide and one with the Prima Gears of War 4 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide. In my initial run through, I found about a third of the collectibles and in my second I found all of them and completed the campaign about 3 hours faster. I will give 1 hours to having known the strategies, but those other 2 were definitely me searching for those collectibles. That was my main use for the guide in the campaign, it has great strategies and insight on like boss and level tactics as well, but everyone’s plan dies when they get Torque Bowed in the face. The hours saved looking for the collectibles though is definitely worth the price of admission.

The multiplayer application is where the guide really shines. Gears has always had some of the best multiplayer experiences and is rife with details that reflect it. I’m personally not a very hardcore multiplayer player, so I’m not gonna know what locations are called what. At least I didn’t until this guide. It was like learning a new language, all of a sudden I knew where that 12-year-old kid was yelling at me to go. It didn’t help my score much, although I did win a 5 on 1 match after my team was eliminated (I have yet to play again because my KD is 5.0 right now). But understanding the terminology and the layouts really seem to make the gameplay more enjoyable. It’s comforting knowing where I got shot from. Also, it is an invaluable tool for Horde mode. Knowing the best locations to drop the fabricator is CLUTCH. Having the right location for the right rounds changes everything.

Lastly, the book itself. The cover is elegantly simple, but it is eye-catching. The shine of the Gears emblem on the front and back covers gives it a powerful look appropriate to the Gears franchise. Something about seeing the artwork captured and displayed allows you to appreciate it much more than when you’re spending hours searching for collectibles or killing grubs. You get to appreciate how much detail and attentoin the designers pay to every single part of the game. The Coalition did an amazing job of meshing what we love about Gears and adding new elements that feel organic to the world. The best part though, without a doubt, are the COG dog tags that come with it. The dog tags serve no purpose other than being the best gift to give to a Gears fan. The tags are solid metal and have a nice heft to them would probably get tiresome to actually wear. But man do they look amazing hanging from my lamp.

The Prima Gears of War 4 Collector’s Edition Strategy Guide is the perfect compliment to the game. In the campaign mode, it helps you collect all the collectibles without wasting a lot of needless time searching and replaying. For multiplayer it helps you plan out your strategies and learn the locations without taking away from the experience. And the artwork used throughout the book really allows you the appreciate all of the work that went into to make this game. And the COG dog tags are any Gears fan’s dream come true.
