The Most Popular Game of Thrones Fan Theories for Season 7

GameStop, Inc.

Game of Thrones certainly needs no introduction. The TV show is so popular that it has been adapted to fan fiction, board games and everything in between. Fans can even play online casino games ( that feature the Game of Thrones theme.

With season 7 taking its own sweet time to finally hit our screens, people are looking for ways to get their Game of Thrones fix, with the most popular option being theorising what will happen next. There have been plenty of theories doing its rounds, some highly plausible while others are just plain wacky. Here we take a look at some of these theories so that you can make up your own mind ahead of the season 7 launch in July 2017.

Tyrion Targaryen

There have been many rumours that link Tyrion to the Targaryen’s, the most popular being that Tyrion is actually the product of the Mad King Aerys and Joanna Lannister instead of Tywin. This could certainly give Tywin reason enough to hate Tyrion the way he did.

Jon and Sansa get married

When Jon finally finds out about his true parentage, it would reveal that he and Sansa are actually cousins, not siblings. During those days, marriage between cousins was normal, and these two characters getting married will surely help their cause to hold on the North and lay claim to all of Westeros.

Meera Reed is Jon Snow’s twin sister

As this theory goes, both Ned and Meera’s alleged father Howland was at the Tower of Joy when Lyanna gave birth and that she, in fact, had twins. Ned, therefore, raised Jon on his own while Howland took in Meera.

Arya and Nymeria reunite

Since Arya is in the Riverlands after paying a visit to the Frey’s, we’re hoping for a reunion with long-lost direwolf Nymeria, who she said goodbye to all the way in season one.

Littlefinger plans to mess up things for Jon and Sansa at Winterfell

After being rejected by Sansa at the end of Season 6, one can only imagine that Littlefinger will not be taking this lying down. The popular theory is that he will either convince Sansa to betray Jon or use his own tactics to usurp Jon’s power and take Winterfell.

Bran will let the WhiteWalkers in

When Bran was touched by the Night’s King during one of his visions, it allowed the White Walkers access to an area that was formerly magically protected and resulted in the most devastating death on the show – that of Hodor. Since Bran is now headed for the Wall, it is likely that he could ruin the enchantments that cover the Wall and let the WhiteWalkers in.

Jorah will return and healed from greyscale

The theory is that Jorah will not only return healed from greyscale but also that the new Red Priestess, named Kinvara, was the one who cured him.

Cersei, the Mad Queen

With no children left to protect and nothing left to lose, all the signs point to Cersei going full psycho. Then there is Dany, who is making her way to Westeros as the rightful queen of the Seven Kingdoms, which will only ruffle Cersei’s feathers even more.

Jaime will kill Cersei

When Cersei was still a child, she visited a witch in the forest who revealed that she would be killed by ‘the valonqar’, which translates to ‘the little brother’. Many believed this to be Tyrion, although since Cersei is going down an even darker path, even Jaime is being considered as the brother who ends it for Cersei.

The stage was set for CleganeBowl 2016, what with the return of the Hound and the Mountain. Both were thought dead, but both are alive again. Many fans still hold out hope that these two will cross paths again and that the Hound will finally get his revenge.

Sam will figure out how to beat the WhiteWalkers

There has to be a reason that Sam Tarly is still alive, and many fans think that he will be the one who figures out how to beat the WhiteWalkers.

Stark reunion

Game of Thrones fans want many things, but on top of the list is definitely a reunion of the last surviving Stark children. While Jon and Sansa have reclaimed Winterfell, we’re hoping that it is only a matter of time before Bran and Arya find their way home. Winter is coming, after all.
