It’s like someone knew my deepest, darkest fears and put them in a single movie. Oh, I’m not talking about ’80s video games coming to life and destroying humanity, I mean putting Adam Sandler and Josh Gad in the same movie. The second trailer for Pixels, the latest film by Chris Columbus, hasn’t exactly presented anything to assuage my fears following the first trailer for the film. Of course, I could be wrong, after all you can’t entirely judge a film based on a little over 2 minutes of footage, but it certainly does look grim. I also feel a bit of sadness in dreading any movie with Michelle Monaghan and Peter Dinklage, who are typically reliable in everything they do. Sandler, Gad, and Kevin James…not so much.
Pixels will be tickling the nostalgia bones of ’80s children and giving me nightmares when it opens on July 24th, 2015.
The official synopsis for Pixels:
As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times – at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults — and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.
