The Afterglow AG9 Wireless Headset is PDP’s latest headset for the Playstation 4. Are they comfortable? Do they sound good? Will they fall off my head? Let’s find out.
Upon initial unboxing the appearance of the AG9 is that it appears sleek and comfortable, my only gripe would be the the plastic headband doesn’t appear to be made of the best material but seems durable so longevity of use will tell the tale. All the controls are on the left earpiece. There is a volume knob on the back, a bass boost button on the front, auxiliary and usb jacks on the bottom and the power button on the side. The microphone is detachable for easy storage, Also using the supplied auxiliary cable, the headset can also be used on anything that uses a standard headphone jack like your phone or mp3 player.
Comfort wise, they are really good. There is a good amount of padding on the top and the earpieces are not shaped in such a way that my ears get sore after wearing them for an extended period of time, unlike the Playstation Gold headset. The headset does feel like it is going to fall off my head, but it never actually does. That could just be me and my head though. At an affordable $89.99 it feels like all of that money and more was put into the sound, mic quality and features so I would give the minor build misgivings a pass.
Soundwise, these things are fantastic. The audio comes in nice and crisp, and the bass boost does add a bit of “oomph” to certain scenes. I played Star Wars Battlefront with them and it felt like you were watching the movies. Each and every sound from the speeder bikes to the X-Wings to the laser from the blasters and the voices came in clear and audible. The music came in booming. Playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on the Xbox One, the audio was no different. All the sounds came in nice and clear. That is how good I felt these headphones were. The microphone sends your voice nice and clear to the other side so your teammates can understand you.
So, like Prismatic XBox One controller, the AG9 seems to be wanting to take the place of my primary equipment, in this case, my Playstation Gold headset. They are comfortable, the mic is good, and they sound good. If you are looking for a headset at a good price point of $89.99, this might be one to check out.
