The signs were all there. His waistline is expanding. He doesn’t smile like he used to. Now it seems as if a mid-life crisis might drive a fissure into his relationship with Ms. Pac-Man. Happy Birthday, Pac-Man, this is your life. For the 35th birthday of the iconic video game character, who was originally named Puck-Man (thanks, Scott Pilgrim), the marketing team of Pixels has released a new clip which shows the middle-aged character running amok while Adam Sandler and Josh Gad are hot on his trail. I completely sympathize with Pac-Man’s reign of terror — I don’t want to live in that world either. Regardless, for the iconic character’s 35th birthday, I recommending going down to whatever bar or pizza parlor still has the tabletop version of the iconic game and post up for a couple hours.
The official synopsis for Pixels:
In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.
