Certain friendships, no matter how long you’ve known someone, are built on a foundation of sarcasm, bad puns and practical jokes. The Teen Titans finally grew up and became simply the Titans, but the foundation of these characters friendships haven’t changed in the slightest. Now that Wally West is back, they are whole again and as funny as they were before Abnett made sure to capture the essence of the original series in this Rebirth version.

West is still opining about Linda Park and getting teased by Garth wondering if they weren’t actually the Teen Titans, Roy gives him prays and Lilith continues to try to reach into the depths of his mind to make the connection of what happened to him in the Speed Force. Of course, there is one problem, Lilith pokes the proverbial bear and awakens something that should have remained dormant and in that reawakening, it will be one more hell unleashed that they have to deal with while trying to get to the bottom of who changed the timeline.

The humor, wit and charm of Titans has made it a fast favorite, the interactions between the characters is a reminder of the classic New Teen Titans and it was the kick-in-the-pants these characters needed. The last go-around of Titans prior to the New 52 was too serious. It lacked any sort of fun that made this team who they were, this time around the essence of what made people fall in love with the Titans in the first place has been restored.

The Verdict

No matter how much things change, some things remain constant and the humor, brevity and enjoyment that comes from the Titans is that constant that comics need.
