NBC’s smash hit series, Superstore returns for Season 6 with the premier episode entitled, Essential. We learn that Amy (America Ferrera) and Jonah (Ben Feldman) will potentially be moving to California because of Amy’s promotion, but there is nothing to fear because they will still be representing the Cloud 9 family.
Unfortunately, with good news there is always bad as we learn of the Coronavirus, which puts a damper on everything as the NBA season was announced to be cancelled and now Cheyenne (Nichole Sakura) freaks out about washing her hands for 20 seconds. We also learned that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson had the virus, which puts Mateo (Nico Santos) in a tizzy.
As funny as this episode is in satirizing the initial mass hysteria of Covid-19, it would have been more powerful, if not beneficial to be the final episode of Season 5 or run as a Superstore special episode. I only say this because of the SARS CoV-2 fatigue, but to see how this would have effected Big Box and grocery store workers with a touch of humor was quite refreshing and sympathizing for the viewing audience.
The ensemble cast still has the magic that makes this series a hit and I hope that we get to watch it for at least another four seasons. Mark McKinney, Kaliko Hauahi, Colton Dunn and Lauren Ash end up having some of the best lines in this episode but the stand out performer for this episode was Kelly Schumann. Her Justine had some of the most ridiculous and believable lines. I have met people that talk and act like that and to see it on television week after week, has me laughing exceptionally hard tonight.
Superstore airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

Although this episode comes six months too late, Superstore still has the magic that made the show a hit and has me watching every episode.
