We may never get another NBA Jam but I believe we have found its spiritual reincarnation with Saber Interactive’s NBA Playgrounds
It may be showing my age, which my skin doesn’t because I’m Asian, but I am a huge NBA Jam fan. Mashing in buttons to get unlimited turbo, knocking players over to steal the ball, it was a ridiculous game that was fast-paced, engaging, and resembled basketball enough to seem like I understood the sport. Anyway, Saber Interactive is bringing us NBA Playgrounds, a high-flying, arcade-style basketball game. Let me list out the features:
NBA Playgrounds Game Features:
- All 30 NBA Teams will be featured
- An extensive roster of current and retired NBA players that can be leveled up over time (usually not the case)
- Local and Online Multiplayer
- Online Tournaments
- Hundreds of over-the-top dunks and moves to unleash for show-stopping displays of acrobatic skills
- Ability to play ball on numerous courts around the world
“Basketball is such a pick-up-and-play sport at heart – we really wanted to bring that spirit into gaming,” said Saber’s CEO, Matt Karch. “NBA Playgrounds has a lot of depth for pros who’ve mastered their game, but it’s accessible enough that anyone can jump in, have fun and feel competitive.“
NBA Playgrounds releases in May 2017 for $19.99 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC (Steam) as a digital release only.
