The Irvine Theater Company proudly lifts the curtain for the Orange County premiere of ‘My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical‘ an absolutely mesmerizing mixed media one-woman show (kind of, we’ll explain) by the extraordinarily talents of Eloise Coopersmith, performing as The Writer, featuring toe tapping tunes by Roxanna Ward.
Coopersmith is the only live performer on stage, with pre-recorded performances by her fanciful Hallmark-esque movie cast, featuring Nina Herzog as Emma, the girl with big dreams seeking romance and equality. Andrew Joseph Perez as Prince “Holly” Hollister, who wants to be loved for who he is, not for his status, Benjamin Perez as Maestro, the father-figure who raised Emma, but still sees her as a little girl instead of the woman she’s blossomed into. Monika Pena, Maggie Howell and Sam Labrecque, respectively Patti, Maxine and Laverne, the friends that push her to greatness in saving the show, along with Jim Blanchette, the Tavern Owner, Tess Adams, his daughter Hannah and Jessie and Aaron Pyle as the second-banana, Hallmark couple.

‘My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical‘ transports you to a whimsical world of endearing clichés and cheesy romance, perfect for Hallmark enthusiasts. The story follows a devoted Super Fan (The Writer) on her quest to create the ultimate Hallmark movie, only to have her beloved characters spring to life in the most delightful and unpredictable ways. Coopersmith delivers a performance that is nothing short of spellbinding, gracefully blurring the lines between fiction and reality in a celebration of love that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious. Her timing is impeccable in not only singing along, but acting against pre-recorded content. There is no pause button or rewind as once the digitized performers are rolling, Coopersmith fakes us feel that we are inside her head as she is having these real life conversations with her fictional characters.

Performed at a non-denominational church, ‘My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical‘ included some audience participation as The Writer shares a bowl of dark chocolate with the audience, marking the first time I have ever taken something out of a collection plate.
As part of the innovative experience, the Irvine Theater Company incorporated technology, using, Professor Paul J. Zak’s research in neuroscience to gage the shared watching experience is what is happily titled, ‘Dr. Love’s Rom-Com Experience‘, using his app (only available on Apple, coming to Android in September, 2024) combining the enchantment of live theatre with cutting-edge technology, blurring the lines of romance and science, weaving together a fully interactive experience.
‘My (Unauthorized) Hallmark Movie Musical‘ is a gouda time for all, running from July 26 through August 10, 2024, every Friday and Saturday.
