Here are Your Must Buy ‘Black Mask Studios’ Titles for December 23rd

GameStop, Inc.

WeCanNeverGoHome005CVRWE CAN NEVER GO HOME #5
Artists: Josh Hood & Brian Level
Writers: Matthew Rosenberg & Patrick Kindlon
Story Review:
The title of this comic says it all. My first foray into the Black Mask books and this title did not disappoint. You get blood, insanity, teenagers, powers and chaos….Enough to make any comic fan drool. This reads like the old school New Mutants titles minus the PG rating. Say hello to Madison and Duncan our two teenagers experiencing all that comes with youthful drama, issues and to top it off super abilities that neither have any control over…..nuff’ said.

Duncan the nerd, and Madison the abused girlfriend are both destined for all things terrible. The writing is really solid. Readers get a heavy dose of teenage love and super hero adventures all mixed up with a hefty dose of crime. Madison will definitely be a fan favorite. Duncan is an absolute screwed up kid. Can we say Bonnie and Clyde all over again….absolutely

Art & Lettering (8/10):
The artwork in this book is perfect for the storytelling. The pages are solid, the line work and action are on point. Very, very well done.

Overall (8/10):
This is a surprising hit in my opinion and a must read for all comic book types. Really solid.

xd1X’ed #1
Writer: by Tony Patrick
Artist: Ayhan Hayrula

Overview:
Simply stated, this is a Black Mask Studios mind #@$%. Another hit, these Black Mask guys are onto something with this genuine hit and great read.

Story Review: (8/10)
The premise of this book is Total Recall with a mind wiping twist. What happens when you want to eliminate someone from your life? You erase them from your mind completely….That is what X’ed has put on the table for readers.  Meet Evelyn and her brother Mack Delainey. Evelyn decided Mack needs to be wiped from her mind. Mack is the souless, bad guy that is every bit the villain you love to hate. Greedy, selfish and a guy that has taken every advantage he can from his client’s accounts.

A lot happens including kidnapping, beatings and torturing. As the team gains access to Evelyn’s mind, readers are introduced to a tripped out, odd, psychotic and bizarre look at things. X’ed is really nicely done, well written and honestly insane. Tons of intrigue, lots of mystery, all wrapped up into an absolute must read world. The future is bright for this 1st issue which is a page turner with a sprinkle of bizarre genius.

Art & Lettering (8/10):
Ayhan’s art is a hit. Characters and environments are really well done. The incredibly bizarre and strange splash page really won me over as a reader and it was perfectly meshed into the storytelling.
The dreamlike imagery and coloring by Doug Garbark works in every way imaginable. The grey colored sequences help the story and take us into those different mindsets. Jim Campbell’s lettering is solid but at times difficult to read.

Overall (8/10):
X’ed is another big win for Black Mask. It is honestly time to take notice, these guys have come to the yard ready to play ball with the big boys.
