Not since the Muppets took Manhattan has their been a Muppet movie worthy of the title, “Muppets.” Yes, the last Muppet movie was good, but rather melancholy. Director James Bobin and writing partner Nicholas Stoller, were able to bring back the one-liners and self-deprecating humor that made Jim Henson a hero to so many people of the past 40 years.
Shortly after the crew reunited, they are hoodwinked into going on a world tour by Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais). Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, The Great Gonzo, Animal and the rest of the Muppets start their world tour at the birthplace of comedy, Berlin Germany. Little do they know, Badguy is really a “bad guy,” who has been plotting with the world’s number one criminal and most dangerous frog, Constantine, who breaks out of a Siberian Gulag.
Ricky Gervais as Dominic Badguy, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, The Great Gonzo, Animal and the rest of Muppets
In a case of mistaken identity, Kermit must escape from the gulag in order to save his friends from being accomplices in the greatest heist of the century! Now while Constantine and Badguy ruin the Muppets, Kermit must direct the Annual Inmate Review as the Interpol Inspector Jean (Ty Burrell) and CIA Operative Sam Eagle must solve the case.
Tina Fey as Nadya is flawless, who knew she could sing!?! Burrell and Sam Eagle steal the show while Gervais holds his own playing second banana to the world’s most dangerous frog.
In typical Henson fashion, the cameos only enhance the film. You will see Salma Hayek, Stanley Tucci, Tom Hiddleston, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Danny Trejo, Ray Liotta, WWE Superstar Dylan ‘Hornswoggle’ Postl, James McAvoy, Christopher Lee, Chloe Grace Mortez, Usher, P Diddy and even Christoph Waltz dancing THE WALTZ!
