Mike Kaye Talks His Reoccurring Role on ‘The Bondsman’ – Interview

GameStop, Inc.

Comedic actor, Mike Take takes on the reoccurring role of Tommy “Tater” Dean on Prime Videos’ horror-comedy, ‘The Bondsman‘ now streaming.

Up-and-Comer, Mike Kaye has a reoccurring role in Amazon Prime and Blumhouse Television’s horror-comedy, ‘The Bondsman‘, playing Tommy “Tater” Dean, a comic relief Appalachian henchman with his own theories about the chaos unfolding in Landry. A blue-collar guy trying to mind his own business, Tater gets tangled up with the wrong crowd, but there’s a reason why Hub (Kevin Bacon) keeps him around. The drama-thriller follows a backwoods bounty hunter who returns from the dead for a second chance at life, love, and his music career—only to find his job now has a demonic twist. The show, which premieres this fall, also stars Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Nettles, Damon Herriman, and Kathrine Barnes. Created by Grainger David and showrun by Erik Oleson, ‘The Bondsman‘ was ordered straight to series in June 2023 and will feature eight half-hour episodes.

In our conversation, Kate and I joke about being only children. He also revealed his love of comedy, having started in improv, which plays a big part in his role as Tater. What started as a one-off appearance for Tater evolved into a featured role in six of the eight episodes of ‘The Bondsman‘ in its first season. Kaye’s journey from a brief appearance to a significant role highlights how much he had impressed the show runners.

Kaye’s path to acting was unexpected. Born in New York and raised in Southern Florida, Kaye originally planned to pursue as career as a veterinarian (his cat crashing the interview is a perfect indicator). However, after a high school theater experience where he nailed a one-liner that had the audience laughing, Kaye realized acting might be his true calling. Despite this realization, he spent years working odd jobs before mustering the courage to move to Martha’s Vineyard, wait tables, and study acting. Eventually, he moved to Atlanta, where he started booking roles, including his breakthrough role as Tater.

Outside of acting, Kaye is a huge fanboy at heart who loves comedy, sports, and nerdy hobbies like Magic: The Gathering and World of Warcraft. His love for these games even played a role in his decision to drop out of college and pursue his acting dreams.
