Mayweather takes Pacquiao the Distance

GameStop, Inc.

Mayweather PacquiaoLas Vegas, NV – May 2, 2015 – Dubbed The Fight of the Century, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao takes on Floyd “Money” Mayweather at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

Actor and singer Jamie Foxx sang the Star Spangled Banner for what was supposed to be the greatest superfight that was intended to rejuvenate America’s interest in the sport of boxing.

In a walkout that took longer than that of the Undertaker in the WWE, Pacquiao is all smiles, posing for selfies with trainer Freddie Roach while dancing his way to the ring; while Mayweather walks to the ring with Justin Bieber??? Okay, sure…we’re not going to challenge his choices.

This fight was so big that it need two big name ring announcers, Michael Buffer announced Pacquiao while Jimmy Lennon Jr. did so for Mayweather.

Round one of 12 is underway and they are in the feeling out period. The crowd chants Manny-Manny-Manny as Mayweather is working his jab, only to be answered by the Pacman. Mayweather ties up Pacquiao in the corner as the round comes to an end.

Round two and Pacquiao has Mayweather against the ropes who ties up the Filipino fighter and drives him back to center ring. Mayweather has turned this round into a hugging match more than a boxing round as he keeps getting driven into the corner by Pacquaio. Mayweather is making Pacquaio chase him against the ropes as he slips out from under the jab and returns to the center of the ring.

Round three and they touch gloves, Pacquaio still stalks Mayweather. With every punch landed by Pacman, Money ties him up for a referee break. Pacquiao ducks Mayweather’s jab and almost went for a single leg. Mayweather answers with a guillotine. This one’s going to turn into MMA soon.

Roung four, as Pacquiao goes for a body shot, Mayweather pushes back with a slight headbutt. So far for every one Packman lands, Money is able to dodge three jabs. Mayweather is rocked and Pacquiao goes to town as the champion is able to withstand the barrage against the ropes. Pacquiao looks to have attempted another single leg. We’re waiting for this one to go to the ground.

Round five and you can see the frustration is Pacquiao as he lunges after Mayweather driving him back into the corner but missing the big hook. Mayweather is leading with jabs and lands a combination of his own. Pacquiao is fighting Mayweather’s fight as Mayweather goes for another guillotine.

Round six is underway and Pacquiao is starting to let his hands fly, however Mayweather is counter punching and lands a back elbow on the break. Pacman tees off on Money who shakes his head at him after every combination as if to say, “You can’t hurt me.” The head games look like to be finally working in the second half of this fight.

Round seven finds Mayweather on the attack, going for body shots, working his way in-and-out on Pacquiao, not giving the Filipino hero a chance to answer by rocking him with a straight right hand. Pacquiao goes for the body and Mayweather goes for a third guillotine. With only 30 seconds left in the round, Pacquiao lands a big straight left of his own.

Round eight, no one is looking to make a mistake in the later rounds as Pacquiao ducks a straight and lands an overhand left followed by a left hook. He drives Mayweather back into the corner but again Mayweather slips out. This one is just too close to call. Mayweather is making Pacquiao miss, but he’s not making him pay and that could be the deciding factor in this fight.

Round nine finds Pacquiao leading with his right jab, but Mayweather is still able to find his way off the ropes. Pacquiao taunts Mayweather to fight and in the tie up Mayweather his Pacquiao with a light punch to the back of the head on the break. Mayweather is returning the taunts as he’s dropped his leading hand opening himself up for a jab only to dodge three in a row. Mayweather lands an overhand right, but Pacquiao lands a left straight of his own. Mayweather goes for another guillotine in the tie-up as the round comes to a close.

Round 10 and it’s Pacquiao who slips out passed Mayweather’s attack landing a left hook, forcing Money to put his hands back up. Pacquiao continues to chase Mayweather around the ring, but he may be up on the score cards now.

Round 11 and Mayweather is on the attack with a one-two combination and is now being tied up Pacquiao. He’s landed two left hooks against Pacman and has got him backing up a little, but is this last ditch effort after landing a right hook going to be able to sway the judges? Mayweather is finally landing some decent counter punches but Pacquiao still presses forward forcing Mayweather to fight out of the corner. Now it’s Mayweather who’s chasing Pacquiao as the round comes to and end.

Twelfth and final round, this could go to the judges, but you never can tell in a superfight. They meet in the middle of the ring, intentionally hug each other and Mayweather gauges the distance with his jab answering Pacquiao’s right with a one-two combination as he dances back to the center of the ring from the ropes. Mayweather slows Pacquiao’s momentum by tying him up yet again with only a minute left in the fight. The crowd is still on Pacquiao’s side as Mayweather has dropped his hands and his throwing punches from his hip in the most cocky of fashions already lifting his hand in victory before the fight comes to and end.

This one has gone to the judge. With a score of 118-110, 116-112, 116-112 your winner by unanimous decision Floyd “Money” Mayweather!
