June 4, 2012, Huntington Beach, CA – Summer is here and Phat Collectables is in full swing with their almost biweekly events. This weekend’s signing was no exception, as the guest was non-other than famed artist, Rob Liefeld, who is best known for his creation of Image Comics’ Young Blood, and Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. Saturday’s signing at Phat Collectibles’ Anaheim store was filled with over 300 fans showing up in their appreciation for the 20-plus years of art that Liefeld has given to the comic industry.
“We had well over 50 or so people camped out before 9 a.m.,” says Joe Orta, the mastermind behind Phat Collectibles events.
Liefeld gave out free sketches to the first 50 people in line of either Deadpool or Deathstroke, which are two of the current characters he is drawing. What was supposed to be a two-hour signing beginning at 1 p.m. did not end until 7 o’clock, granting every fan in the store to receive Liefeld’s John Hancock.
“Rob texted me after he left saying it was a great signing. It was the best in a decade and will spread the word to every creator that Phat Collectibles is the store in So-Cal,” Orta stated at Sunday’s event in the Huntington Beach store.
Liefeld looked a bit tired, but in good spirits at Sunday’s signing going for a second round of 50 more free sketches and signing comics. Another set of awesome events for Phat Collectibles, continuing to put together events for the fans.
