Don’t ask me how, don’t ask me what, don’t ask me where, but Warner Bros. Animation in association with LEGO have done the impossible. They made us ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT AQUAMAN!!!
Yes, in the new animated feature, LEGO DC Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis DC Comics has actually made use put our phones down and sit in complete fascination as the “King of the Seven Seas” (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) along with the Justice League, faces off against his brother Ocean Master (Trevor Devall) and Atrocitus (Jonathan Adams) to save Earth from the Red Lantern Corps evil schemes.
This is is also the first appearance of Green Lantern, Jessica Cruz (Cristina Milizia) in one of the LEGO/DC crossovers. This particular Lantern of Sector 2814 is absolutely spot on to her character in the comics and making someone with agoraphobia is no easy task!
Susan Eisenberg returns to the DC Animated world, this time as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis and Aquaman’s wife, who is none-too-happy with him once the rage of the Red Lanterns over takes her and the rest of the underwater kingdom. Troy Baker will always be the quintessential LEGO Batman (we’re looking at you, imposter to the thrown, Will Arnett). Scott Menville reprises his role as Robin from Teen Titans Go!, only this time he’s Damian Wayne, not the Dick Grayson, while Nolan North has finally grown up into Superman after playing Superboy on Young Justice
.
Look at that, I’m actually gushing about Aquaman! This is almost as funny as LEGO DC Super Heroes: The Flash, which was also quite entertaining from earlier this year. Jason Momoa is going to have some serious shoes to fill to get us to care about Aquaman as much as director, Matt Peters and writers, Jeremy Adams and James Kreig have done so with this adaptation.
LEGO DC Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis is out right now on Digital HD and Blu-ray.

The Verdict
LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman – Rage of Atlantis is funny, light hearted and self-aware. The kids these days call it, “Meta” and that’s exactly what we want from our DC Animated Features…now if only the DCEU can learn something from these guys.
