One of the best films of the year, Richard Linklater‘s Last Flag Flying is still playing in theaters across the country. If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, I highly recommend that you get out there and look to see if it’s near you. Last Flag Flying is a tonal masterwork as it weaves in and out heartbreaking drama and laugh out loud comedy while simultaneously examining the meaning of military duty and the bonds of brotherhood forged by those who serve. But if you have missed Linklater’s adaptation of Darryl Ponicsan‘s novel sequel to The Last Detail (the film, however, is not a sequel), you won’t have to wait long to catch Last Flag Flying as it lands on Digital HD on January 16, 2018 and a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on January 30, 2018.
With an all-star cast headlined by Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne, Last Flag Flying tells the story of three Vietnam War veterans who reunite when one of their sons is killed in the Iraq War. Over the course of this reunion, the three friends who haven’t seen each other in decade rehash old war stories and the scars that have been left behind. Be sure to track down this masterful work of cinema that brings forth the laughter and tears in equal measure when Last Flag Flying lands on Digital HD on January 16th or Blu-ray/DVD on January 30th.
The official synopsis for Last Flag Flying:
In 2003, thirty years after they served together in the Vietnam War, former Navy Corps medic Richard “Doc” Shepherd (Carell) reunites with former marines Sal Nealon (Cranston) and Reverend Richard Mueller (Fishburne) on a different type of mission: burying Doc’s son, a young marine killed in the Iraq War. Doc decides to forgo a burial at Arlington National Cemetery and, with the help of his old buddies, takes the casket on a bittersweet trip up the East Coast to his home in suburban New Hampshire. Along the way, Doc, Sal and Mueller reminisce and come to terms with shared memories of the war that continues to shape their lives.
