Presented by Bodybuilding.com and sponsored by Subway Restaurants, this year will mark 13th annual Fit Expo event in Los Angeles. With a line outside the Los Angeles Convention Center at that went all the way back to the parking lot at 8:00am, it is safe to say that thousands of fans were eager for the annual Fit Expo Los Angeles.
Bodybuilding.com‘s booth easily had the longest line that wrapped around several booths but was strategically placed to not disturb the overall flow of the convention. Barbell Brigade gathered big crowds with their deadlift competition where attendees had to deadlift twice their bodyweight for as many reps as possible in one minute against another individual. Esquire Network‘s Team Ninja Warrior made an appearance and even set up the infamous obstacle course that has defeated so many contestants, the wall. Hylete had a 20% discount on all their products just for the Fit Expo, including their amazing expandable backpacks. Some smaller booths like Body Energy Club, a nutrition shop that started in Canada, had some awesome deals with the popular brand, Vega. One of my favorite booths was FlexComics, a combination of superheroes and fitness, FlexComics has some awesome shirts and came out with a “Droid Rage” shirt just for the Fit Expo.
Oddly enough, the Fit Expo is the one convention I have the hardest time deciding what to wear. Most conventions I wear casual clothes like cargo shorts and a t-shirt, but the Fit Expo is not a typical convention. The Fit Expo has booths that give challenges, workshops, boot camps and everyone attending is about the gym life. So, you can’t help but want to show off your physique and wear your best gym clothes even though you’re not going to the gym, or are you? Then again, when in Los Angeles you’re either going to the gym or you look like you’re going to the gym.
If there is one thing that the Fit Expo does well is organizing. For example, on day one when the doors opened dozens of people just rushed in and cut the hundreds of people in line. Day two, the organizers had already taken the necessary steps to beef up security and make sure that did not happen again. In addition, with so many famous fitness celebrities and giveaways there are bound to be long lines that rival lines at Disneyland. Despite that, Fit Expo staff made sure to have them line up in a way so that it did not obstruct the aisles. A lot of credit should be credit should be given to the people that organized the Fit Expo, otherwise it would have been a chaotic mess. Not to mention, to plan an expo that’s all about getting fitness in the first month of the new year you know they’re doing something right.
The Fit Expo does not disappoint. With all the competitions, workshops, demonstrations, shows, exhibitors, vendors, and the free merchandise, two days may not be enough to hold all the gains within the Fit Expo. I wouldn’t surprised if the Fit Expo takes up more halls at the Los Angeles Convention Center in a few years. I can’t wait to return next to year and I’m excited to check out the Anaheim Fit Expo on August 27 and 28.
