Legendary voice actor and performer John Kassir chats about his career and Midsummer Scream in Long Beach, CA.
John Kassir, acclaimed for his iconic role as the Crypt Keeper on HBO’s ‘Tales from the Crypt,’ is eagerly anticipating his appearance at this year’s Midsummer Scream, taking place at the Long Beach Convention Center from July 26 to July 28, 2024. Kassir, whose heritage is Assyrian with a father from Mosul (Nineveh), Iraq, and a mother from Syria, has built a remarkable career spanning stand-up comedy, television, and film. He first gained widespread recognition in 1985 by winning the ‘Star Search‘ competition, and has since become a celebrated voice actor. His extensive body of work includes memorable roles such as Ray Rocket in ‘Rocket Power,’ Deadpool in various Marvel video games, and Meeko in Disney’s ‘Pocahontas.’ Kassir has also voiced characters in commercials for ‘The Legend of Zelda,’ Disney’s ‘Pete’s Dragon,’ and more.
Midsummer Scream is set to be an impressive event, with an anticipated 50,000 attendees flocking to experience its extensive lineup of activities. Highlights include the Hall of Shadows, which offers a collection of immersive haunted attractions, and presentations from major players like Universal Studios and Lionsgate, featuring sneak peeks at upcoming Halloween events. The convention also boasts celebrity appearances, including renowned figures like Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) and David Dastmalchian, as well as unique experiences such as “Urban Death,” a short film festival, and the return of CREEP Los Angeles. We spoke with Kassir about our shared Assyrian heritage, both our fathers being engineers and how appreciative he is of his fans, along with how much fun he has attending these conventions.
