Professional wrestler turned promoter Jennifer Thomas has been involved with the world of sports entertainment for roughly 20 years. She has appeared in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) the precursor to WWE NXT as the World Wrestling Entertainment’s training ground. She has also worked with David McLane, the founder of the original Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (GLOW) in his current Women Of Wrestling (WOW) promotion has has also competed with Lingerie Fighting Championship (LFC), which I happily coined the phrase to as Burlesque MMA.
Thomas has now created her own sports entertainment entity entitled Women Athletes on Fire that will now host its first ever live event from The Nerd off Fremont Street in Las Vegas, NV. Thomas has put together a wide variety of talent from fire dancers, to professional International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) bodybuilders and will even host intergender matches on this card, with the main event being two Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) combatants.
Women Athletes on Fire plans to shake things up and become the Cirque du Soleil of professional wrestling.
We spoke with Thomas this past week shortly after her recent bout for LFC at Booty Camp 2, where she was disqualified for having been thrown out of the ring and on top of a judge that she has had problems with in the past.
As this will only be Thomas’ second event with Women Athletes on Fire and its first with a live audience we can only image the potential this promotion will have in growing her audience.
A great twist with Women Athletes on Fire and its viewing model is that fans get to book the bouts by sponsoring the fights they would like to see, as Thomas discusses this in our interview.
