Did you know that there’s a new Star Wars movie coming out? Not many people are aware that the adventures happening a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away are continuing because public interest just isn’t that great. Oh, who am I kidding? Star Wars: Episode IX looks to be the biggest movie in the series yet and today at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago the first teaser for the film was unveiled as well as its full title. So check out the teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
That’s certainly a teaser, giving us a little taste of this latest chapter and not telling us a damn thing about the plot of J.J. Abrams‘ highly anticipated sequel. But Rey (Daisy Ridley) jumping over a TIE Fighter is pretty damn cool. The rest of the new gang is here Poe (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega), as well as glimpses of the past in Lando (Billy Dee Williams) and Leia (the late great Carrie Fisher) and the narration is provided by Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who we’re certainly going to see as a force ghost. Of course, our heroes will clash with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order for control of the galaxy.
At the end of the teaser a familiar and evil laugh echoes. We know who that is — Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). How will he factor into The Rise of Skywalker? Oh, let the blind speculation begin! Also, that title — The Rise of Skywalker — will leave plenty speculating alone, as we’re left to wonder the fate of the Skywalker lineage considering what happened to the iconic hero at the conclusion of the brilliant but divisive The Last Jedi.
We only have 8 more months of speculation, people jumping to conclusions based upon leaked marketing mock-ups, theories inspired by toys, and all other sorts of guessing as to how the Star Wars saga will conclude its ninth and final episode of the Skywalker Saga. Strap in because Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker doesn’t arrive in theaters until December 20, 2019.
