Injustice 2 Gear Trailer explains the game’s sub-title and also the game’s intricate gear system that lets you customize your look and play style.
The game has always been displayed Injustice 2: Every Battle Defines You. There have been multiple trailers that highlight a character’s changing gear after battles. However lately, especially in the Shattered Alliances videos, we’ve been focusing on new characters and story. Now we’re getting into the nitty gritty of the game, and the Injustice 2 gear system that will allow players to not only customize how they look, but how they play.
From the trailer, it seems like an extremely detailed RPG-like system. Gear will boost your base stats and if you use gear of the same set, you will get bonus stat boosts for each additional gear you use in the set. You will acquire gear after each battle it seems, which makes sense considering the sub-title, and how you fight and the battle results will likely affect the gear you get. It looks like we’ll be able to receive some of the most iconic alternate costumes the characters wear throughout their publication and broadcast histories; like Red Son.
What worries me about the Injustice 2 gear system is that it is extremely RPG-like, which makes it extremely easy to put in a freemium pay system, which I personally believe is killing the gaming industry in many ways, but that’s a different discussion for a different time. I just hope this gear system is contained strictly in-game and not something that ends up feeling like Clash Royale where you either put in hundreds of hours to get some of the best stuff, or you drop more money to get it right away. If it’s a gotcha system, that’s even worse. I am fully bought into paying $100 for the game and the season pass, essentially paying $100 for a full game. I am okay with that because it usually also comes with something cool like a statue or something. What I am not okay with, are games where if I put in $100, I still won’t have all the best stuff. If you can buy the best gear, or worse, buy random packs that have a higher percentage of getting the best gear because they cost more, you’re not playing a game. You’re gambling. And the company that made the game is trying to capitalize on your natural gamer instinct for complete the game and also capitalizes on those with addiction problems, to make an unnecessary amount of money. I say unnecessary because it’s not longer an exchange of currency for goods/services, it is the company throwing in a manipulating cash grab and taking advantage of a group they know includes a large population of younger and naive children.
Hopefully, that’s not the case. Injustice 2 releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One May 16, 2017. Pre-order now for Darkseid.
