On Sunday June 9th, 2013 the House of England in Balboa Park helped celebrate 50 years of the Doctor Who franchise with a party and some temporary additions to its exhibits of English culture. With a Cyberman head, several pots of tea and a continuous stream of Doctor Who episodes from both classic and newer adventures, the party was visited by over one hundred guests as they moved in and around the tiny cottage.
Many of the displays were donated by Cody Shoberg, an Escondido resident who entertained guests dressed in a well-made replica of Tom Baker’s iconic fourth scarf. Rebecca Carey, a volunteer at the house, dressed as a Weeping Angel and posed with guests for pictures in front of cardboard cut outs of David Tennant, a Dalek and the TARDIS. Volunteers were on hand to provide answers to questions regarding English culture,,the difference between England and Britain and what all this crazy Doctor Who stuff means. A cardboard display was also on hand with brief definitions of the various characters and concepts of the show.
The Doctor Who display will remain in the house for the next couple months before the items are returned to their owners. The House of England Cottage is open every Sunday from 12:00-4:00pm. Donations are accepted and tea is served. You can view the cottage at : https://www.facebook.com/
