The involvement of Adam Sandler in practically any project is a bit of a red flag for me. If I’m not mistaken, the last Sandler film I saw in its entirety was Funny People. So I can’t comment on the promise, or lack thereof, within the new trailer for Hotel Transylvania 2. While it would be easy to channel my inner-cynicism and assume that Sandler’s name is the mere confirmation of the film’s lacking quality, however, it is written by Robert Smigel, a really funny comedian best known for his work as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Also helping me temper my cynicism is the expansive cast of vocal talent lending their voices to the work, including Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, and Mel Brooks. Not all of them are among my favorites, but a number are. Whether or not my inner-cynic will be validated will be answered on September 25th, 2015 when Hotel Transylvania 2 hits theaters.
The official synopsis:
The Drac pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure in Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 2! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania… Dracula’s rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny – and in for a major cultural shock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But little do they know that Drac’s grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things are going to get batty!
Is it directed by Genndy Tartakovsky? The first one was a lot of fun. All it needs is creature from the black lagoon
Yup same director. I think since the Creature wasn’t based on a public domain book, Sony can’t use him.
