History of Swear Words Review – A lot of pretty interesting f*(!ing information with a lot of d!($ing around makes for very entertaining S#!+

Everybody swears. Even if you say things like darn, dang, fiddlesticks, you’re swearing. It’s a biological urge that creates countless benefits for the swearer’s body and mind. It’s a necessity of life and has always been. I know this because I watched 6 incredibly entertaining and informative episodes about the history of swear words. First and foremost in my History of Swear Words reviewthere are numerous professionals who professional research and teach swear words. That’s a real damn thing. That’s incredible. A number of these professionals share their professional knowledge with viewers sharing the history, various meanings, applications, and biological and sociological benefits of swearing. This is all enhanced through the guidance of the show’s host Nicholas F$%^ing Cage and put into comedic and applicable context with a cast of celebrities.

History of Swear Words is a very simple show executed masterfully well. It’s formatted like many reality/commentary series such as Bro Code or I Love the 90‘s. It begins with a topic then numerous perspectives. However, History of Swear Words offers a nice cavalcade of facts that adds to the entertainment value and surprisingly sticky information. Aside from the pure entertainment value of the series, the show is truly educational and insightful. Nic Cage offers a superb performance that feels serious and backhanded at the same time. The backhanded nature is not meant in a negative sense, more so that he’s being so deadpan to enhance the innate comedy of it all. I mean he starts an episode by yelling the F-Word for an extended period then acts like that wasn’t an epic moment of television history. While originally believing Samuel L. Jackson should’ve hosted a show about cursing, I have to admit with the show’s approach, Nic Cage is a perfect choice.

I also personally really liked the commentators and educators. There was a diverse set of opinions that seemed like an actual slice of the population in a metropolitan area versus the usual “random” slices that seem to only include the bare-minimum to seem diverse. It was especially apt in the B!+(# episode where they largely relied on the female commentators to guide the narrative. The show overall feels very real and makes it much more relatable and likely why the facts and information are largely retained. Honestly, the series might have stumbled on how to make purposely educational entertainment.

History of Swear Words is a hilariously entertaining and clandestinely an incredibly educational series. Viewers will walk away with an understanding of etymology and the etymology of six of the most common swear words as well as their cultural significance. Viewers will be captivated and entertained watching the perfect mix of celebrity and academic professionals explain and educate swearing while constantly swearing. All of this is enhanced by Nic Cage’s ethereal ability to hit the extremes of deadpan and expressiveness while staying classy about crass. I fucking enjoyed the shit out of this series and I believe many of you will too. My History of Swear Words review gets a 4.5/5. It would be perfect, but it did not have Samuel L. Jackson personally commenting about the F-word.
