Few people are lucky enough to know what they want to do at an early age (Jedi Knight notwithstanding). Even fewer have the talent, focus and drive to achieve their goal while still in their second decade. Zac Pullam is one of those people. While other kids his age were playing video games, skateboarding and goofing around with friends. Zac was playing video games, skateboarding, goofing around with friends and landing roles in theatre, fashion shows and award winning short films in his hometown of Tallahassee, Fla. At twelve years old his agent suggested he relocate to Los Angeles which led to commercials, TV guest spots and music video appearances. 2014 he landed his role of Grant Wilson in the MTV drama “Finding Carter”. I recently got a chance to interview Zac about his time on Finding Carter and what dream role he would love to play.
Tallahassee to LA at thirteen years old. I was nervous about riding my bike across town at that age. Why then? Was it the next logical step? The time felt right? What was the thing that scared you the most about the move?
Actually, I was 12 and yes it was the next step. My agent in Atlanta, suggested we go out to LA for Pilot season and after about 6 months of discussion, we (my family) made the decision to go. So my Mom and I left in Jan of 2013. I wouldn’t say there was anything that scared me. I was nervous in my first audition because I didn’t know what to expect. I had only done auditions for the Florida State Film School and a couple of taped auditions.
Grant has an internet girlfriend. Was there anything different, as an actor, in your approach to this relationship? Is it more of a challenge to connect with Elizabeth Hunter only through a video feed?
Elizabeth and I are actually friends. We met in Jan 2013 at a camp in Santa Barbara. I was surprised when she got the role of Reagan but very happy. We are comfortable around each other.
Were you worried about a catfish plot twist?
I really wasn’t worried about a “catfish” twist. In season 2 we met and now in season 2B we become a lot closer.
In your free time your bio says you’re writing and directing short films. What part of working behind the camera do you enjoy the most?
What I like about writing and directing is that I can be in control of the project. It drives me a little crazy when I can’t do something that I feel is necessary for the scene.
What sort of roles are you interested in for the near future? If you could be in anything what project would you love to be part of?
I would like to do an action film. Comedy would be fun and I would do a horror film. I really like the new MTV show Scream and wouldn’t mind getting a part for one episode and dying a horrible death. I would LOVE to play Indiana Jones one day. That would be a dream come true.
Describe what’s in your trailer, what’s the coolest thing you’ve got in there?
Our trailers are cool. Couch folds out into a bed, fridge for drinks and stuff, flatscreen TV. I’m only in there to get dressed usually. Most of the time I’m on set or in the schoolroom. I did have a really cool trailer one time on location. We had a full cast so they brought in extra trailers. I ended up with one that the rapper, T.I. had been in the week before. It was awesome. Big theater style recliners, huge TV, etc.
Anything you’ve worked on just around the corner?
I’m only on Finding Carter right now. I have auditioned for a few projects and hopefully will book something. I’d like to do a Feature Film while on hiatus from Finding Carter.
‘Finding Carter’ season 2B just kicked off on MTV.
