Lovers of cinema rejoice! Today brings us the trailer for the Coen Brothers‘ latest film, the highly anticipated screwball comedy Hail, Caesar! The plot is tangled up in the studio system that dominated Hollywood years ago with contract stars and studio fixers ensuring that any problems incurred by a contract star is kept out of the gossip columns. Josh Brolin stars as Eddie Mannix, a studio fixer trying to discover who is behind the kidnapping of movie star Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), who is headlining the studio’s next big epic, also entitled Hail, Caesar! Joining Clooney and Brolin in Joel and Ethan Coen‘s latest cinematic romp is Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johansson, Jonah Hill, and Frances McDormand.
Of course, just hearing new Coen Brothers movie should be enough to sell you on Hail, Caesar! But if that’s not the case, Hail, Caesar! sees the Coen Brothers reuniting with Roger Deakins, quite possibly the greatest cinematographer living today. Deakins provided the cinematography on the Coen Brothers’ last excursion into the Hollywood of yesteryear, the marvelous Barton Fink. In the meantime, I’ll be here checking off my calendar daily until the February 5th, 2016 release date of Hail, Caesar! Oh how I wish the future was now.
