Exposé the greatest all girl Freestyle musical act takes to the stage with En Vogue at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
I had a great chat with Ann Curless, Jeanette Jurado, and Gioia Bruno of Exposé recently about their upcoming performance at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts on September 7, 2024. The show will also feature the legendary R&B group En Vogue, and it’s shaping up to be an incredible night. I even had the chance to reconnect with Gioia and she’s always fantastic. She’s not only a 5’1″ ball of energy but also the only person who’s ever managed to get a knot out of my shoulder.
In speaking with Exposé, it’s hard to overstate their impact. They’re arguably the greatest Freestyle girl group of all time. Back in the late 1980s, when rock was ruling the charts, Exposé was shaking things up with their infectious dance beats. Hits like “Seasons Change” and “Let Me Be the One” made waves, turning nightclubs into dance havens. Their string of hits, including the iconic “Point of No Return,” changed the music landscape. They became the first girl group since the Supremes to have seven consecutive Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and Billboard even ranked them as the eighth most-successful girl group of all time. Their energy and impact were so notable that the Los Angeles Times praised their “verve.”
All these years later, Exposé is still in the game with the crowd-pleasing single “Shine On,” which is lighting up dance floors worldwide. It’s incredible to see their legacy continue with such vibrancy.
What’s funny to think about is getting ready for this performance has meant a lot of travel, and it’s a unique experience when your kids are the ones dropping you off at the airport as they joked about in our interview.
