Jeff Parker, I could kiss you! When DC Comics created the New 52 Justice League, I was hoping for something powerful, something strong, something that we had not seen before. Unfortunately, that last part was kind of hard to do with characters have were established over 75 years, have become iconic in their own legends and any revamp was going to be problematic for the hardcore fans.
Enter Future Quest, a Justice League based on classic Hanna-Barbera animated action series from the 1960s. A fresh, fun and exciting story that updated these heroes without tarnishing their legacies. We got a Space Ghost origin story, a convergence between multiple worlds, a terrorist attack from F.E.A.R. and the birth of a team up between Dr. Quest and Birdman all in the first issue!
Jonny Quest and Hadji are adopted brothers with a great sense of adventure, searching for anomalies that opens between temporal worlds leading them to the swamps in Florida that sets up our next adventure for the second issue.
Shaner and Rude’s art is amazing. It is influenced by 60s pop art, beautiful storytelling and a way to capture the original animated series in comic book format that makes me wish for Future Quest to be a weekly instead of monthly series. I am still getting goosebumps just thinking about it!
