This is a weekly column where I will showcase up and coming or undiscovered talent, bringing to your attention artists that I feel will be break-out stars in the near future. Everyone has a favorite comic book artist. One they’ve discovered recently, or maybe followed from the very beginning of their career. Some have so many favorites it’s hard to choose just one. Every one of those artists started somewhere, be it by producing photocopied mini comics to sell at their neighborhood comic shop, getting a table in the artist’s alley at their local comic convention, posting images to deviantart.com, or doing commissions through the internet or at conventions.
Just a few years ago Justin Jordan, Jeff Lemire, and even once upon a time Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie were just creators with a dream. Now? They’re working on some of the biggest, best selling titles published today. Just wait, Tradd Moore will be just like them, and he’s already on his way to the top.
Tradd Moore grew up in Snellville, Georgia loving comics, video games, and The Matrix, and it is clear that those influences are integral to his work. He picked up drawing somewhere along the way, and in 2010 graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He’s been drawing funnybooks ever since.
With his frenetic lines, exaggerated and hyper-stylized art, Tradd Moore doesn’t just grab your attention, he grabs it, throws it to the ground, and yells “TOUCHDOWN!” Seriously, his stuff is intense. He was the perfect artist for The Strange Talent of Luther Strode and its sequel, and his upcoming Ghost Rider series looks just as crazy. And his page layouts? They’re as energetic as what’s going on in panel.
He hasn’t done much in this industry yet, but what he lacks in quantity he more than makes up for with quality. His Deadpool issues, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #8, and the aforementioned Luther Strode are must buys.
Tradd Moore is slowly becoming a household name, well, in comic fans households at least, but with such a unique style, that just pops right off the page, he’s definitely a Future Comic Rock Star.
You can see more of his work at his blog http://traddblog.blogspot.com/ and at http://tradd.deviantart.com/, and be sure to follow him on Twitter at @TraddMoore.
