First having premiered at the Austin Film Festival in 2018 and based on real life events, Frankie Faison (Do the Right Thing, Silence of the Lambs, Coming to America) takes on the role of Kenneth Chamberlain, a retired military veteran who suffers from bipolar disorder, on a wellness check, the real Mr. Chamberlain had a confrontation with the very same police officers who were sent to investigate his whereabouts and within two hours of the call was murdered.
Mr. Faison discusses taking on the role of Mr. Chamerlain, having spoken with Kenneth Chamberlain Jr. about the loss of his father and the great depths of research that writer and director, David Midell went to in order to bring this story to life.
Official Synopsis:
Based on the true story of the events that led to the death of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr, an elderly African American veteran with bipolar disorder, who was killed during a conflict with police officers who were dispatched to check on him.
The multi-award-winning drama, which made its world premiere at the Austin Film Festival in 2019, stars Frankie Faison (Do the Right Thing, Silence of the Lambs) as Chamberlain. The film is produced by Midell and Enrico Natale of Redbird Entertainment. Executive producers also include Morgan Freeman, Lori McCreary, Gary Lucchesi, Sharad Chib, Chris Paladino, and Milan Chakraborty.
The tragic event took place almost 10 years ago (November 19, 2011) and Mr. Chamberlain’s son, Kenneth Chamberlain Jr. has been speaking out about his father’s case since his tragic death.
