What was your first Cosplay Experience? I started cosplaying as a Halloween tradition with a group of friends in high school. The first time I cosplayed at a convention was Otakon 2003. I was 17 and it was my first real trip with just friends. And it was SO MUCH FUN! I was trilled that I could see other cosplayers that I recognized from the internet. And people seemed to really love my costumes. It was just wonderful and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I was hooked! All these years later the feeling is still the same, I just love when people compliment my costumes! It makes me want to work even harder on the next one!

How long have you been Cosplaying? I started in 2001 but I didn’t attend my first convention until 2003. I’ve been going strong ever since. To date I’ve made over a hundred costumes!

What is your favorite cosplay you have worn/created? Ah! I hate this question! It’s like having to pick a favorite child! I love my Kaidan Alenko (Mass Effect 3) armor. I just love the character so much, I poured my heart and soul into that armor! And I even had his voice actor sign the shoulder plate! Talk about a fangirl moment! I also really love my Sheryl Nome (Macross Frontier) wedding dress. It just turned out so pretty! Who doesn’t love running around in a beautiful bridal gown?

If you had unlimited resources, what Cosplay would you create? Someday I would really like to make Version 4 KOS-MOS from Xenosaga 3. It’s been a dream costume of mine for many, many years. At this point I think I’m just hesitant to start working on it because I always believed it was something I wasn’t ready to make and I wanted to gain more skills first. If I ever work up the nerve to take those first steps I’m sure I could handle the build.

What advice would you offer others trying to break into Cosplay? If at first you don’t succeed, try, fail miserably, and try again.  No one starts out being awesome. All those incredible cosplayers you see online didn’t get to where they are overnight. It took me the better part of a decade to teach myself to sew at a proficient level. And I’m still learning new things with every costume I make. The only way you won’t get better is if you give up. So keep trying! Keep improving! And keep learning!
