What was your first Cosplay Experience?
My first cosplay experience was back in 2014, unless you count dress up parties and childhood antics! Then dressing up is something I’ve been doing since I could walk.
How long have you been Cosplaying?
So I’ve been cosplaying officially for just over two years now. After I discovered that cosplay was an actual thing and better yet, something that was happening in Australia, I saved up for a costume, bought a ticket to Sydney’s Supernova Expo and never looked back.
What is your favorite cosplay you have worn/created?
Ooo, that’s a tough one… Since all of the characters I cosplay are all favourites of mine, but I suppose if I had to choose, I would pick these two (picking just one is too hard!): Black Cat, from Marvel’s Spider-man and D.Va from Overwatch. I absolutely adore them as characters. They’re super fun and definitely my more popular cosplays.
Funnily enough, Black Cat was my very first cosplay and D.Va is my most recent! Already, I can’t wait to put on the costumes and wear them to a future con.
If you had unlimited resources, what Cosplay would you create?
If I had the resources– and preferably the ability to sew– I would definitely make a urethane rubber, top quality Batgirl costume, the one from the earlier New 52 Batgirl comics, with the Black and Yellow colouring. If I ever got the chance to cosplay that version of Batgirl, I think I would die of happiness.
What advice would you offer others trying to break into Cosplay?
My advice to new cosplayers would be: Be prepared for a lot of trial and error. Like any work of art, it takes a lot of patience, time and dedication. But, most of all, just have fun with it, because in the end, it’s worth all the effort and hard work.
