What was your first Cosplay Experience?
My first comic con experience cosplaying, I dressed up as one of my favorite superhero archers – Green Arrow. Smallville was big at the time and the show that will always stay close to me, being one of my favorite shows growing up I attended dressed up as the Smallville version of Green Arrow, it was fantastic ! I loved the suit, I still own it after so many years. It’s in my cosplay closet.
How long have you been Cosplaying?
I’d like to say 28 years since I’ve always enjoyed dressing up in costumes all my life ha ha I have been actively cosplaying for about 4 years going on 5. I started attending conventions nearby & locally but for the past two years, I have been trying to branch out, traveling to different areas & states, getting to meet awesome people who love cosplay as much as I do. It’s like reuniting with family from all over who enjoy the same passion while having so much fun while doing it.
What is your favorite cosplay you have worn/created?
My favorite cosplay will always be The Mighty Morphin Green Ranger. I grew up a Power Ranger fan and I still am. I remember sitting on my parents plastic cover couches, eating a bowl of cereal every Saturday morning watching it with my brother on my mothers tube TV on fox kids network. Power Rangers had a huge impact on my childhood, teaching me lessons that helped me become a better person and the show continues to do so for kids today, that’s what so incredible about it. I remember when I was a kid, my class did a Halloween dress up party and the Green Ranger was fresh on the press, he played a flute that controlled the dragonzord that came out of water like Godzilla & wore a awesome shield. I knew I had to dress up as him but my mother was a single parent, hard working, things were a bit rough but she bought me this 3rd party Green Ranger suit that didn’t have a shield, the helmet had two eye holes, the mouth piece was a skin tone color & the helmet was about 2 sizes bigger that made me look like a Funko Pop figure ha ha but I wore that costume with pride ! I loved it, man I wish I still had it, I would have definitely framed it.
If you had unlimited resources, what Cosplay would you create?
I don’t think I would create the ultimate cosplay but if I had unlimited resources I would create the ultimate hall of cosplays ! Similar to Batman’s Cave or Tony Starks armor’s but a room filled with all my cosplays throughout the years on mannequins, props & accessories in glass cases like a Cosplay Museum.
What advice would you offer others trying to break into Cosplay?
HAVE FUN ! that is the best & most important advice I will give to anyone cosplaying. Cosplay is for everyone & anyone, enjoy yourself, have fun with the biggest of smiles. Sometimes people get lost in their own creations and forget why they started it to begin with. Never lose your passion & keep the fun alive.
