Exposé and En Vogue Ignite the Night at Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, being the perfect way to start this year’s 30th Season.
The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts erupted into a whirlwind of nostalgia and excitement, celebrating the 30th anniversary of two of the greatest girl groups from Freestyle and R&B (respectively): Exposé and En Vogue. This extraordinary concert not only kicked off the season with a bang but also kept the audience enthralled from the first note to the final curtain call.
As the lights dimmed, the air crackled with anticipation. The opening strains of Exposé’s “Exposed to Love” burst forth, and the crowd was instantly transported back to their vibrant youth. It felt like stepping into a magical time machine—my long, wavy strawberry blonde hair swaying with the beat, and the joy of 6th grade dances flooding back. The energy in the theater was electric, and the excitement was palpable.
From the moment Exposé took the stage with their live band, it was clear this was going to be a night to remember. The audience, swept up in waves of nostalgia, couldn’t stay seated. From the upper tiers to the front rows, everyone was on their feet, dancing and singing with the same unrestrained joy they had decades ago. The infectious beats and classic hits of Exposé created an unforgettable party atmosphere.
“They sound exactly like their albums!” said Cedric Posey, a patron of the Cerritos Center for the Performing arts for over 15 years. Posey had never seen En Vogue live before and definitely gave him something he could feel…in their performance.
En Vogue’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. Their set featured a breathtaking medley of hits from the 1960s through the 1980s, a tribute to the musical influences that shaped their 34-year career. Each song was a nostalgic journey, culminating in a triumphant finale with their iconic number one hit, “Hold On.” The crowd’s energy surged and En Vogue’s electrifying performance closed the show on a high note, leaving everyone exhilarated.
Exposé, celebrating an impressive 38 years together, also brought their own brand of magic to the stage. Anne Curless humorously quipped that her long-standing partnership with Jeanette Jurado had outlasted her marriages, adding a delightful touch of personal charm to their performance. Their camaraderie and enduring spirit were evident, making their set even more special.
The night was a brilliant celebration of timeless music, seamlessly bridging past and present. The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts vibrated with joy, proving that the allure of these legendary girl groups remains as powerful as ever. As the house lights finally came on, it was clear that this was more than just a concert—it was a jubilant trip down memory lane, a celebration of enduring talent, and a reminder of the timeless magic of great music.
