There’s something out there in the woods…something evil. With The Evil Dead just landing on 4K UHD Blu-ray last week, it was only a matter of time before Lionsgate Home Entertainment provided the same treatment to Sam Raimi‘s madcap sequel Evil Dead 2 (aka Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn). We now know when we’ll see the continued misadventures of Ash (Bruce Campbell) in that horrible ramshackle cabin in the woods as Evil Dead 2 arrives on 4K UHD on December 11, 2018.
The Evil Dead was the breakout hit for Raimi and Campbell, but it’s Evil Dead 2 that made them cult icons. Many wrongly believe that Evil Dead 2 is just a slightly glossier remake of the original. However, the movie just recaps the first in its opening before reopening Necromicon Ex-Mortis and expanding the world that first hit the screen in the extremely low budget debut feature. With Evil Dead 2, Sam Raimi established the tone that would run throughout the Evil Dead films, continuing with Army of Darkness and all the way through the Ash vs. Evil Dead television series (the complete series arrives on Blu-ray tomorrow!). Raimi and Campbell created this bizarre sense of humor that combines intense blood-splattering horror with the slapstick of The Three Stooges, a delirious combination that really shouldn’t work but, my god, it works.
Gas up your chainsaw. Load up your boomstick. Evil Dead 2 is coming to 4K in all of its gory glory when it arrives on UHD Blu-ray on December 11, 2018. It’s gonna be…well, you know.
