Electric Styles J-Walkers in black suede.
About a month ago, Electric Styles were kind enough to send me a pair of their J-Walkers, suede high tops that fit just as comfortably as Vans, only the catch is, these bad boys light up! I had learned about Electric Styles from one of the LA KISS and LA Sparks Dancers, Suzie Elias’ Instagram account. Elias was kind enough to point us in their direction and we were off and running…s0-to-speak.
While I waited for my own pair to show up, I had attended a reunion cruise for the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (G.L.O.W.) called, The AfterGrlow Fan Party, four days of former lady wrestlers that drank every single one of us under the table off the coast of Baja California. Coincidentally, my new friend Robert Nguyen had purchased a pair of their High Top Bolt. Naturally, I had to harass Nguyen throughout the night, “Hey, are they heating up yet? Are they still comfortable? Do your feet hurt yet from all the dancing?” He was quite tolerant of my questioning and everything was met with a resounding, “Yes.”
A week after the cruise ended, my pair arrived and I started to wear them around. I wore them to Disneyland, I wore them walking to the gym and just around town. They definitely helped on my early morning or late night walks over to 24 Hour Fitness, as I would light them up to make sure on coming traffic could see me. I did however change into running tennis shoes when I got there because I have a tendency to enter the steam room after my workout and I didn’t want to get suede shoes wet.
The shoes work like this: you get a USB charger that plugs into the wall, connecting to both shoes where they plug in near the tongue. It takes about four hours to charge, but they can remain lit for roughly six hours…I know because I left them on as a nightlight the first night to drain the battery like I do with a new cell phone. Electric Styles are manufactured in China, where the shoe concept originated, but all the designs are developed in-house at their Southern California offices.
“They are built for the dancer, dreamer and young at heart. We improved upon the durability of the rechargeable batteries (hidden under the shoe insole) as well as the placement of the USB Port, Button and overall shoe functions. Aside from durability, our team of top shoe designers are also crafting epic designs that can be worn with or without turning the LED lights on. Our goal is to make shoes that transform with your lifestyle, that look great day or night, glow on or glow off,” said Jenna Janes, a rep from Electric Styles.
All of that information is covered in the video below, which is quite ingenious in how they design their kicks:
The LED lights are extremely durable and have 12 different settings. There are seven static modes, two strobe modes and three color changing modes that will enhance your night out. Just so you know, the USB port in the shoe is better hidden than the video eludes to; they expose it more so you can easily find it via this clip.
After a month of wearing them, they have quickly become my favorite pair of going out kicks. They are comfortable, stylish and can pass for business casual shoes.
Electric Styles light up shoes range in price from $69.97-$99.97 and can also be matched with a number of their light up accessories, like ties and hoodies.
