EA announced its acquisition of the UFC licensing from THQ, making the “Undisputed” series and the EA Sports MMA series as dead as “Duke Nukem.” The new series will be called “Ultimate Fighting Championship MMA” and would be the sole MMA game to fighters Anderson Silva and Junior Dos Santos.
Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC, agreed to give EA the right to stamp the EA Sports logo on various UFC games for the next 4-5 years.
This forced EA to eat crow, as Dana White said in a 2009 interview, “EA Sports told us ‘You’re not a real sport’ and they wouldn’t touch MMA. They wanted nothing to do with it.” Looks like EA finally put its foot in its mouth and sucked it up.
