I love co-op gaming, and I feel many developers fail to truly capitalize on it. Thankfully the great people over at Wired are bringing the world Super Dungeon Bros, a 4 player action platformer that crosses platforms. Super Dungeon Bros is like a cross between Happy Wars and Dungeon Defenders but instead of map conquering or tower defending players travel through different worlds of Rockheim fighting monsters and bosses and solving puzzles.
Super Dungeon Bros boast the ability to never play the same level twice. The levels construct as you play with over 32 million unique combinations. Players can team up locally or online in any combination from any system, for brotastic combined attacks as they make their way through the worlds of Rockheim leveling up their characters and enjoying all the bro-based taglines and themes Super Dungeon Bros will present.
At E3, I was fortunate enough to play a demo of the game and was quickly engulfed by the bromazing glory that Super Dungeon Bros has to offer. Players are able to choose different characters and weapons. Character choice seemed inconsequential but weapon choice determined how you played the game; distance types choose wands or cross bows and brawler types choose hammers or swords. The combo attacks are really cool, especially one called the “Bro-nado” which is exactly what it sounds like, also the necessary team ups to reach other places and accomplish certain tasks is very reminiscent of Little Big Planet. The fluidity of fighting solo to teaming up is flawless, and all the little bro quips make for very entertaining moments. The fact that the bosses eventually start smack talking when you take to long to beat them is also a nice touch as is the danger meter which keeps players from lollygagging at one spot for too long. Super Dungeon Bros has the makings of great co-op game and should be considered in the same tier as Gauntlet and Magicka in terms of great modern co-ops.
Super Dungeon Bros is due to release this winter on Windows 10, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, and Steam
