Ever wanted to play a Rocky game in 32-bit glory, the way it was meant to be? Well Punch Club is coming, and it should satisfy that itch. Punch Club is an action RPG about a guy who’s dad was a fighter who was killed. 20 years later, the guy begins his training regiment to become a fighter while trying to live out the other facets of his life. Players will have to balance training, working, and living while climbing the fighting ranks and figuring out who killed your father.
I was able to play an early demo of Punch Club and it seems like a very well put together game. The fighting system is designed so that the player guides the moves/fighting style of their character. The big appeal of the game is all the unlicensed 80’s references. By unlicensed I mean more parody versions of 80’s icons, like ninja Alligators instead of Ninja Turtles.
The drawback to the game that I found is that it’s like The Sims. You do all this stuff to better the life of the player, which you later realize is all stuff you could actually be doing in real life. At least in Punch Club there’s a story line and you’re simulating the life you should be doing. Punch Club comes out this fall on Steam.
